Great

Date:March 8, 2011
Best Uses: Garage / Shed cooling
I am using the A/C to cool a workshop that is insulated with a loft and it is perfect. Keeps the room cool, was easy to hook up and had to turn it down because it was a little too cool for comfort! Glad I bought it and love having it! I am able to use the shed during the summer which would be impossible without the A/C.

Great for Equipment Room

Great unit for equipment room. Dual hot side pipe design is good for efficiency. Unit does not allow much control over where the cool air is blown to.

Cooling A Data Closet w/8 Servers,Switchs,Firewall

Date:September 30, 2010
Best Uses: Office/commercial cooling, Replacement Equipment
I had a portable air unit that quit functioning and this unit was my replacement. It certainly was an excellent investment and far better then the prior unit that we had in place. It cools the environment much better efficiently and maintains the steady temperature. Price is excellent for the product. I researched multiple units prior to investing in another unit and I can say that this was an excellent investment for out data center.

Awesome cooling

Date:September 30, 2010
Best Uses: Living Room cooling, Bed Room cooling, Kitchen cooling
More than sufficient cooling for me. I have it in my living room which is approximately 500 sq feet. It brings the temp down to a comfortable level. Real energy efficient and a lot quieter than an in window air conditioner I used to have. Extremely pleased. Hoses were a little difficult to install due to me not having sliding windows(have crank out windows)

Just Right

Date:August 25, 2010
Best Uses: Bed Room cooling, Efficiency / Studio cooling
Needed air and dehumidifier for old house - bought bigger than one room to move unit between two floors depending on use. Easy to install, and the hard plastic window kit was much more sturdy than I expected (I am used to the junky plastic "wings" on window units that break so easily...). So far, excellent quality of parts, not too many unnecessary features that make use difficult and break-down more likely. I have not yet seen my electricity bill, but expect it to be within reason. It is a touch loud, esp. when compressor goes off (there is a small 'bump'), but does not wake me up. Best located across the room - plenty of air circulation. Also very happy that so far, dehumidifier function works, and I have not had to empty any bins or basis - the venting of humidity works fine.

FANTASTIC

Date:August 25, 2010
Best Uses: Whole house cooling
My 85 year old mother lives in Northern California and has never had A/C. With record high temperatures we bought this for her. I ordered it Monday and it was at her front door Friday. She had a friend install it in a few minutes and now she wonders why she didn’t do it years ago. She simply LOVES it.

Sleeping Cool

Date:August 24, 2010
Best Uses: Bed Room cooling
This unit works great. I had a portable air conditioner a couple of years ago but it didn't seem to cool. The two hoses must make a difference. The only issue I found was with the screws used for the window kit. I went and purchased the same size screws with nuts and then they worked just fine. Without the nuts they just fall out. I am thinking about purchasing another unit since this one is working so well. I do not have my first electric bill yet...waiting. I only turn it on while sleeping so hoping that the bill won't reflect too much of an increase.

Yes, get it!

Date:August 22, 2010
Best Uses: Whole house cooling
Gotta admit, at 70 years, I was leery of ordering an appliance over the internet. My caution was unneeded in this case, for sure. After the unit arrived in Massachusetts without damage from Oregon, it was in operation within two hours. Everything works as advertised - no mean feat!
After clearing out the bad air in my well-insulated Cape for an afternoon here in the Berkshires, I'm using only the dehumidifier option currently during a rainy stretch, and even then I can turn the device off for the night and be comfortable.
The only design suggestion I could offer is that accordion-style extensions could be supplied for the window mount instead of the supplied PVC plates. I used a hacksaw and vise to trim a plate. Those without tools may find fitting the window mount a problem. That said, the window mount pieces fit perfectly in the grooves of my Shuco replacement window!
This is a powerful, well designed device that works! All rooms in my house feel its effects. A good product at a good price!

Great Buy

Date:August 12, 2010
Best Uses: Efficiency / Studio cooling
I needed a unit that would cool an attic space of 420 sq/ft. This area is living space that is use half for my home office and the other half for a theater center. With the high temperatures in the Northeast it was unbearable to step foot in my attic even for a short time. Until i purchased this unit I had no a/c in my house. At first I was having difficulty achieving the desired room temperature of 77 degrees, so I did some experimenting. I have noticed that without an extra fan helping to circulate the air the unit took a while to reach the desired temperature. Plus with the high humidity and a temperature (above 85) the unit seemed to run two degrees above the setting i was trying to reach. When I ran a medium size fan in my attic to help circulate the air I no longer had any issues with the unit reaching and maintaining the desired temperature. Also, I have had no problems hearing my television while this unit is running across the room. This unit has done a great job in cooling my attic space. I am very happy that I bought this unit and model.

Easy to set up and does the job

Date:July 27, 2010

This unit was very easy to set up. I had more trouble getting it out of the box than assembling it and putting it in place.
It has taken care of the office space I needed it to cool and the heating, although we haven't used it yet, will be a blessing.

Works great as rated hi btu portable

Date:September 25, 2009
Pros: Cools the Whole Room, Easy To Install, Easy Window Installation, Good controls
Cons: Not good updown stairs, Ship bx need lo side foam
Needed lrg btu unit for 600 Sq ft +/- and searched reviews & found this DIRECT from Compact. Home more due disability w/Rx's, 60[feels70!],rm mate 71: don't take the heat so well as when young Hv'been using it for a month- days at a time 24/7 due to Calif valley heat that hits into the western hills of N. Cal. Using fans to circulate from living room to other areas in 700 sq ft 2 bdrm house. Very high heat gain on lvgrm-kitch but starting early AM with 95-100F day it keeps the house at 74-79F in the hottest afternoon & evening period : much better than 85-95F & hot all nite w/o it. Nite and AM I use intake from outside but later just rig intake vertical inside & recirc. IT'S NOT CENTRAL AC OR BIG WINDOW UNIT. I'm very happy w/ it for a portable & took the 2yr warranty for the longer term. Noise not as bad as I thought; no big deal. The unit has auto-handled condensate w/50-70% humidity. Check the lower side screws as one got a cracked mount [...] I fixed it being handy etc. I plan on installing a through the wall exhaust vent for convenience; guy at the hardware said lots of others this '09' summer in for the same. The unit has clean lines so will be simple to service & keep clean. So it's a 14K btu unit in a console mounted vertically. Works great & simply; easy set up & vertical or horzontal window mount.

Edgestar 14000 BTU Portable Air Conditio

Date:September 18, 2009
Pros: Accurate Temperature Controls, Cools the Whole Room
Bought because we were having extremely hot weather. We have southern exposure the majority of the day. The only problem we had was making it where the vent pipes would be able to exhaust out of our casement window. The window kit is designed to fit sliding windows. We were able to adapt our window to accept the window kit by installing a piece of plexiglass to fit over the area that held the window screen and placing the window kit at the bottom securing the two together with duct tape. We thought of it later that we could have drilled holes through the plexiglass to vent the hoses through for a cleaner install. Luckily we have it installed in an upstairs gallery that has a ceiling fan to push the cool air down to the family and living rooms. The window installment is not visable from the front of the house. But overall, it is able to cool the main part of our house (800 sq ft) by drawing shades, moving cool air with a ceiling fan and room fans strategically placed. I am very happy with the purchase.

Great Product, Great Price

Date:September 10, 2009
Pros: Cools the Whole Room, Easy Window Installation, Accurate Temperature Controls, Easy To Install
We use this unit in the living room on hot and humid days here in southern California. I was a little concerned at first at its size when I unpacked it but it is very easy to move about with its casters. It keeps the room cool and really reduces the humidity. It is a bit noisy but for such a large unit I do not find it bothersome. I also only use a single hose.

works great so far

Pros: Accurate Temperature Controls, Easy To Install, Cools the Whole Room, Easy Window Installation
Hasn't been terribly hot in Seattle since I got this but it definitely works much better than an older AC unit I had. No complaints; likely saves me from getting whole house AC. (It's only been in use for a few weeks though.)
I was worried about the dual hoses and how easy they would be to install in a vertical position (horizontal sliding window) but they were no problems either.

Very Nice Unit

Date:August 14, 2009
Pros: Easy To Install, Easy Window Installation, Cools the Whole Room, Accurate Temperature Controls
Put this in a 400 sqt foot combo family room/kitchen that has cathedral ceilings, cut outs in a wall that separates the living room from the combo room the unit was in. I had put up a sheet to block the lower cut outs, but I can tell you that it was 110 outside and it was 94 inside. which to me was just fine considering the alternative. With fans it was perfectly bearable. I don't have an attic fan, and I think if I'd had the attic fan, the temp would have gone much lower... when its 95 outside its an easy 80 inside. Mind you, the room has a doorless entry to the living room and those cutouts, so the unit was working pretty darn hard and doing a fine job. Obviously the lower the temp outside, the easier it was for this unit to cool. Easy to install, I have side by side slider winders that are 45" tall, not casement windows, and ended up using some strapping tape (that you use to wrap boxes for shipping) to seal the window around the insert. Good quality unit. The window insert juuuuust fit the 45" tall window. I had to put the pieces end to end and tape them, otherwise they'd have been about an inch or two shy if I'd used them as they are engineered.

Works Great!!!!

Pros: Energy Efficient, Even Air Distribution, Quiet, Easy To Install, Accurate Temperature Controls, Cools the Whole Room, Easy Window Installation
I got this unit on the hottest day in Seattle's history.... Thank God!!! I had it hooked up and running within 20 minutes of receiving the unit, it was a very simple install. We're using it in the living room, which is closer to 700 square feet, and it dropped the temp by 10 degrees withing the first hour. It is not a loud unit, no louder than a fan on high. I'm very pleased with this unit.

Pros: Easy To Install, Cools the Whole Room
We wanted a portble unit that we could use anywhere in the house. We have used it in the living room (300 SF-But open to other rooms) and it does fine. I think the unit would work very well in an enclosed room with 400+ SF. Longer dual hoses would have been better, but the included ones work fine.
