Convenience and it works!

Date:July 15, 2011
Best Uses: Small Kitchen, Small Family Size, Vintage or Retro Kitchen
This product gets the dishes clean, although it does lack the power of the high end built-in dishwashers. It also costs a lot less, but I believe the quality is commensurate with the cost and in my small 1952 kitchen it works. I have it on a utility cart which I push over to the sink when I need a load done. I do have to rinse dishes pretty well, but again, a machine which costs 3 times as much is likely to have more power. All in all I am satisfied with this purchase.

Love this dishwasher!

Date:August 24, 2009
Pros: Simple Controls, Cleans Well, Easy To Load, Quiet, Energy Efficient
I use this on a daily basis instead of the built-in. I am retired with back problems and I feel like I stand on my head when I load the built-in. This was a gift from my daughter and I have used it daily. Have had no problems and it is perfect for me and my husband. Will buy another when I have used it up.

I use my dishwasher to clean the dishes and my glassware. This product is great for a person who hates to wash dishes by hand, and also it saves time when you don't have the time. I can't say anything bad about this dishwasher because it works for me.

This smaller but most effective dishwasher is a plus, it is conservetive w/ water usage and is as efficent as the full sized dishwashers. Have owned this modle before and loved it. I found no cons or drawbacks to this machine. I am purchasing the same.

Danby 497W Countertop Dishwasher

Date:August 20, 2008
Pros: Durable
We love our dishwasher and it does do an excellent job of actually cleaning the dishes without having to rinse them, but we wish they had added a second rack that could attach to the bottom or side so that more small dishes could be placed in the dishwasher. There is a lot of space from top to bottom and unless you are putting in all full-sized plates, it is wasted space. Please make a rack to add a second level or tier to your washer Danby. No other complaints. I am a newly single mother, and my autistic son and I put it together. Very easy set-up. Thanks.

Suprise Dishwasher and results

Date:August 5, 2008
Pros: Good Value, Time saver, Durable, High Quality
Cons: Description Discrepancy
I ordered an Edgestar dishwasher which was the equivalent of this Danby one however Compact Appliance ran out and when they restocked sent me this one instead. I was orginally afraid I was stuck with a cheaper substitute but I was pleasantly proven wrong. The faucet hookup went on flawlessly and with a sinkful of 3 day old dishes I immediately put it to the test. I did not use the Sani-wash option and just ran the 20 minute cycle on the dishes and it got all of my dishes, glasses, and utensils clean on the first try. I've had the same success since and I've owned this dishwasher now for 6 months. The only thing I was disappointed but prepared for was its dimensions. It is larger than it appears and its about 1/2 in. higher than what they state. I also had trouble fitting 10" dishes, I found they had to be tilted to the side to do them but it saves quite a bit of work. I had seen previous reviews on the Edgestar and since the Danby has the exact same description I knew it would be a tight fit on top of my counter but it fits. As a bachelor with two jobs I never have time to do dishes on a daily basis so its nice to get home, snap on the faucet connector, load dishes, turn it on and walk away to do other things. I use it 3 times a week and I couldn't be happier. I have only used the sani-wash feature once and the extended wash cycle twice. It gets the job done pretty well w/o those extra features. Definitely was a good buy.

Finally, real results!!! It really works!

Date:August 1, 2011
Best Uses: Small Kitchen, Dorm Room, Bar, Small Family Size, Vintage or Retro Kitchen, RV / Boat cooling
After much research and reading reviews, I decided to take a chance on the Danby countertop d/washer. Seems it's quite popular in Canada also.
It's true it does take bit more space than you might expect, but that's okay.
Setup was easy. At first, I didn't have hose in back tight enough. Now it is perfect, no leaking. I hadn't washed dishes in a long time after getting discouraged with a portable floor model I had bought last year but never worked, esp. after trying various dish liquids, powders and gels.
This one is a GEM, believe me. Washes clean, and if you are clever you can fit all sorts of shapes inside. I have several square dishes and lots of mugs. Even without using rinse agent the first 3 times, it worked well.
Uses only about a 3rd of a 4.2floz bottle at a time. I was tempted to get the 6-place setting but didn't want to pay extra $50. This was well worth the
price. The noise is not really an issue, once it starts I forget about it.Amazing how little soap it needs. Only thing, I had to get used to the open slot for the Cascade powder, instead of a closed top.
Now, even if I have to move, it won't feel like a hassle taking this with me.
Thanks,thanks, thanks!!!!

Perfect for washing kids bottles

Date:January 26, 2011
Best Uses: Bar, Small Family Size
Disclaimer - I am actually using this product exclusively for infant bottles / accessories. Can't comment on actual dishes / silverware performance.
This product is a savior for a parent of newborn twins - it saves on average 3 hour a day for us. The bottle cleaning ability is superior - granted that they are not that soiled. The machine is much more quieter than I expected and produce no visible vibration.
Installation was a breeze - everything you need is provided; not need for plumber.
The only drawback that I can think of are controls - not super intuitive, but once you use it once, its pretty easy.
Overall, very happy with the quality and performance. This is my second Danby product (own a wine cooler) - the company gives superior value for the money. Definitely recommend the product and the brand.
ALSO, Danby is a rare exception that gives 1 year parts + LABOR warranty for this product - beware, others only cover parts.

How much you hate doing dishes...

Date:December 10, 2010
Best Uses: Small Kitchen, Small Family Size
is probably how much you'll like this mini dishwasher. I've had the dishwasher for 8 months, and it is performing as well now as when I got it. No scratches or other damage. I run it 2 or 3 times a week. It doesn't hold much, though it does hold more than advertised once you get creative with how to load it. You can put glasses in, even though it says not to, as long as they are sturdy enough. The cycle is 2 hours and it is noisy. You need to rinse the dishes well before putting them in the dishwasher. But, at least you don't have to wash the dishes by hand, so all this is well worth it to me.

As expected

Date:July 19, 2009
Pros: Simple Controls
Cons: Long Cycle, Noisy, Awkward Loading
We moved into a small apartment and after hand washing silverware and glasses for four I decided to order a countertop dishwasher. It is noisy and the cycle takes a little over two hours. Learning to load it is a bit like putting a puzzle together. All of that, though, to say that I am very happy with it. It cleans the dishes!

Pros: Cleans Well, Easy To Load, Energy Efficient, Simple Controls, Attractive Design
I live in a small apt that had no dishwasher - this was really great, have been using it for 2 years with no problems. I've had occasional spot problems remedied by changing detergent or adding a drop of rinse agent (there's a spot to do this). Very happy with this machine.

overall, a good buy, but.....

Date:April 12, 2009
Pros: Attractive Design, Energy Efficient, Easy To Load, Cleans Well
Cons: Long Cycle, Noisy
I had experience with a friend's Danby compact dishwasher a few years back; they are quite popular among small apartment dwellers in Toronto. I decided to invest in one, and have had it about one week. the set-up instructions really are simple; a water supply hose and drain hose are coupled together and link to your kitchen faucet. A drawback is that whenever you wish to use the dishwasher, you must turn on the faucet, making the delay start feature pointless. The intensive wash setting, while 125 minutes long, got dried crusty pans sparkling clean, but the silverware was still a bit dingy. The rapid wash setting, at 70 minutes, is sufficient for cleaning lightly-used dishes. It's a bit loud, and I wish the hose connections were metal and not plastic, but overall I'm satisfied with my purchase.

So far , so good!

Date:February 15, 2009
Pros: Very easy to install, Good Capacity, Clean Dishes
Cons: Heavy for a regular cart
Was nervous about the easy connect 'cause I live in an old building and it's an old fashion faucet....but worked great!
Have been using it for 2 weeks and as I read the connections were pretty weak (which they are)I just pay extra attention to it every time I connect and disconnect.
U can disconnect just the plastic part if u want to rinse your dishes, but as the pressure in my faucet is pretty strong, it splashes all over, that means I have to connect and disconnect the whole thing every time...
Let's be honest, works great for a single person or couple, no more dirty dishes!!!
Don't need to use the regular cycle which is 130 min....just a quick rinse before you put them in and the P3 cycle (70 min) would work perfect!
It's true though...be prepared for a loud noise...but as u can program a late start, just do it when you're out. Not a big deal for me.

I love my countertop dishwasher.

Date:July 11, 2008
Pros: High Quality, Durable, Good Value
Fits right on my counter to right side of the sink so easily connected to faucet. I was a bit surprised to see that a normal wash cycle takes an hour and a half . But it is worth it as I hate to wash dishes. My one bedroom apartment did not include one. I prefer eating on regular dishes and not using paper/plastic. Enjoying it. AC
