I purchased this unit for a cabin that is only powered with deep cycle batteries and a solar panel. So far it seems to do its job well. Running 2 batteries, voltage does not drop below 12v. When running unit pulls about 4 amps. But its cycle time is not very long. I power it up in the morning when the sun is on my panels. If not it will pull you batteries down. But once it gets to temp. everything works like clock work. I had a propane refrig before this. I figure in one year this unit will pay for its self. In fact everyone that looks at it, said they are going to buy one. I am not a person to go green, but the way finances are lately, if its free its for me. One more thing, I see a very good use for this at parties, unless you still want to buy ice.

After much research I had decided to purchase this item instead of the more expensive sundanzer.
i had read the other reviews of this product and based upon these reviews I decided to purchase this unit.
have it stored and hooked up in an off-grid situation-- the item runs on only a 12 volt battery and it cools everything down quite quickly. I have it set at 45 degrees and it hardly ever has to turn on and run. When running it is a lot more quieter than what I thought.

So far I am extremely impressed. The only thing I wish is that the item could be set up like a traditional refrigerator instead of an ice-box type set-up. However I knew what the set-up would be when purchasing the item.
I am very impressed so far and I hope that it continues to work for many years to come.
Well worth the price and benefit.

Hi, I wanted a 12VDC refrige/freezer that used very little energy (75W) for my 67' Airstream trailer that I have converted to solar power, and is completely self sustained. This unit is perfect. I just wish they would have put the power plugs in back and temp controls on the front and added one more shelf/basket for the large compartment. Other than that the unit does what it's supposed to and seems just about perfect for my application. Thanks,

We bought this freezer on the chance that it would be useful on our planned trip boat up to Alaska.
What a fortuitous choice. We left Washington state in mid-May with this freezer on board our 42' 'trawler-type' power boat. The freezer functioned perfectly for all seven weeks of continual use for the 2,000+ mile trip. Never had any problems. When we had to occasonally unplug the unit for battery saving purposes in remote overnights it never warmed up above freezing for times up to 10 hours.
We advise getting the Transit Bag (cover) to help keep it cool in the sun and to protect the unit from dings & scratches.

A GREAT travel refrigerator!

Other than the weight, this is a great refrigerator. We are currently using it on a 2 week driving trip thru Arizona, New Mexico & Texas. We have run it off 12vDC and 110vAC for 11 days so far. The temperatures have been up to 104 dgrees and the refrigerator has performed flawlessly. It is really to heavy to take in and out of the van so we plug it into AC outlets outside motels. I truly recommend it highly.

I bought this unit not knowing how it was going to work out for me. I live in a 5th wheel travelling the country. The freezer which is what I use it for works like a charm. When travelling I plug it into a 12 volt power source and away I go. It sets across from my couch and seconds as a large coffee table. I makes very little noise at night and does not imped my sleep. Only one slight drawback the plugs in the side of the unit in my case can be tripped on. I have a plan for buying a 110volt angle plug for the unit and securing it to the freezer side panel. The 12 volt plug I'm going to reconfigure also, so it is less likely to be unplugged during travel. All and all this unit works like a dream I would not be without one now.

This unit has run 24/7 riding in my truck for 1 year and 120,000 miles. Not one problem. Saved me a ton of money this last year, cooking in the truck, at least one meal a day.

Pros: Well Built, It's cold very cold, Very low drain on battery, It's huge
Cons: A little big for truck
I put this unit in my peterbilt. Freezer will carry enough food to last me 3 weeks easy! I just heat them in my microwave. I am saving a ton of money with this unit, staying out of the truck stops. 86 qt is a bit large for truck,i had to take out pass. seat and use that space for the cooler. The 43 qt would be best,for a truck. But, I like being able to go 3 weeks without having to find a store, to get a truck in,to restock. Unit has less drain on batteries than plug in coolers I have used in the past, because it does not run continuess. The true test is yet unknown, How long will it last? I hope it is a long time before I will be able to answer that question 10-4 !!

I wound up with the 860 instead of the mid-size, and that's about my only complaint with it. It works extremely well, even in off-road conditions. It's just that it's pretty large for my truck and I can't lift it in and out by myself very well. As long as it stays put in the truck, it gets used all the time! The only other thing was that the limiting strap screws poked a hole in the back of my seat when it slid forward. That's my fault, but it would be nice if the unit had built-in limits on the hinges instead of having a protruding item. Would also like to have an LED light inside the fridge for finding items at night. Still....very quiet and well functioning for what it does.

Our first trip out we found that the 12V cord had a factory faulty fuse, in other words this fuse did not look burned out but did not work for more than 15 minutes into our first day. By the end of travel that day the temp was up to 30 degrees, I jury rigged te fuse and the second day went fine!
Getting to our home in Baja, and pluged into 110V it ran almost continuously and was a little noisy. We'll not use it as a second freezer in the house because of the noise & power draw. (we're on solar).
We will use it for travelng as it works well for that.
